Summary

We are looking for an experienced and highly technical SAP HANA Database Administrator to be responsible for the day-to-day management, health, performance, and security of our mission-critical SAP HANA landscape. The ideal candidate will ensure maximum uptime, optimal performance for in-memory processes, and collaborate closely with SAP Basis and Development teams.

Detailed Description

Performs tasks such as, but not limited to, the following:

• Database Operations & Administration
• Installation & Patching: Install, configure, upgrade, and patch SAP HANA databases, including the application of revisions and support packs.
• Monitoring & Health Checks: Perform daily health checks, monitor overall system performance, resource utilization, and manage alerts using tools like SAP HANA Cockpit and HANA Studio.
• High Availability & Disaster Recovery (HA/DR): Configure, manage, and monitor SAP HANA System Replication (SR) and perform regular failover/takeover and disaster recovery tests.
• Backup & Recovery: Develop, schedule, and execute robust data and log backup strategies, and perform timely database recovery when necessary.
• Storage & Capacity Management: Monitor disk usage, log volumes, and memory consumption; plan and manage data/log volume resizing and overall capacity planning.
• Performance Tuning & Optimization
• Performance Tuning: Proactively identify and resolve performance bottlenecks, including memory issues and expensive SQL statements, using traces and diagnostic files.
• SQL/Code Optimization: Analyze and tune complex SQL and database procedures to maximize the speed of in-memory data access.
• Table Management: Implement and manage SAP HANA table management techniques, such as table partitioning, compression, and Dynamic Tiering (DT) for optimal storage.
• Security & User Management
• User Provisioning: Manage database security, including the creation of users, roles, and privileges, ensuring strict adherence to compliance and auditing requirements.
• Auditing: Define and maintain audit policies to log and trace database activities.
• Troubleshooting: Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for all HANA-related incidents, performing root cause analysis (RCA) and providing solutions for system failures or performance degradation.

Knowledge/Skills/Competencies

• Technical Proficiency: Deep understanding of SAP HANA architecture (MDC, memory management, persistence layer).
• Scripting: Proficiency in SQL and experience with operating system level scripting (e.g., Linux shell scripting for automation of DBA tasks).
• HA/DR Tools: Solid experience implementing and operating SAP HANA System Replication (HSR).
• OS Knowledge: Strong command of Linux (SUSE or Red Hat) operating system administration as it relates to SAP HANA.
• Collaboration: Proven experience working in an SAP environment, collaborating with SAP Basis and Application Development teams.
• Preferred Qualifications
• Certifications: SAP Certified Technology Associate – Database Administrator – SAP HANA.
• Cloud Experience: Experience with SAP HANA on cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
• ITIL: Familiarity with IT Service Management processes (ITIL), including Change, Incident, and Problem Management.
• Non-HANA Experience: Knowledge of other SAP database platforms (e.g., ASE, MaxDB) or general database experience (Oracle, SQL Server).

Physical Demands

• Duties of this position are performed in a normal office environment.
• Duties may require extended periods of sitting and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or on numbers and other detailed data. Repetitive manual movements (e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse, using a calculator, etc.) are frequently required.

Typical Experience

• Overall 10+years of experience with 5+ years of hands-on experience as a Database Administrator and 3+ years dedicated to SAP HANA administration

Typical Education

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
