The Lead – Legal will play a strategic role in supporting NPCI’s product, technology, and business teams by providing expert legal guidance across digital payments, technology contracts, regulatory frameworks, and commercial arrangements. This role is critical to ensuring compliance, enabling innovation, and balancing legal risk with business acceleration. You will partner closely with cross‑functional teams to shape compliant, scalable, and business‑aligned solutions for India’s digital payments ecosystem.

Role: Lead – Legal
Qualification: LL.B (5‑year course) / LLM
Location: Mumbai
1. Strategic Legal Advisory
- Provide end‑to‑end legal guidance on product development, lifecycle management, and business operations.
- Translate complex legal and regulatory requirements into practical, business‑friendly advisories.
- Support product and technology teams in designing scalable, compliant solutions.
2. Regulatory Compliance & Governance
- Stay abreast of laws impacting digital payments, data privacy, and financial services.
- Ensure products, services, documents, and processes meet regulatory standards.
- Prepare committee notes, risk summaries, and governance frameworks for senior leadership.
3. Contracting & Negotiation Excellence
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of agreements, including:
- Licensing, product, commercial & service agreements
- Technology contracts (MSA, licensing, APIs, platforms)
- HR, marketing, collaboration & consultancy contracts
- RFPs/RFQs
- Lead negotiations on complex, high‑value transactions with domestic and foreign entities.
4. Risk Identification & Mitigation
- Identify legal, commercial, and operational risks across documents, integrations, and business models.
- Provide risk‑balanced and solution‑oriented recommendations to stakeholders.
5. Standardization & Process Improvement
- Drive standardization of legal templates, processes, and documentation.
- Modernize and streamline frameworks to accelerate execution and improve operational clarity.
6. Intellectual Property & Rights Management
- Manage IP protection strategies including trademarks, copyrights, filings, and oppositions.
- Partner with external counsels for opinions, filings, and complex legal matters.
7. Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with product, business, operations, HR, and leadership teams on structuring business arrangements.
- Support internal policy creation and compliance frameworks.

Experience
