About the role

We are looking for a hands-on and guest-focused General Manager / Assistant General Manager to manage operations across our hostel properties in Varkala, Kerala.

The ideal candidate should have strong experience in hospitality operations, guest experience, team management, housekeeping supervision, maintenance coordination, vendor management, and process implementation. This role requires someone who can manage multiple properties, ensure smooth day-to-day functioning, and make sure systems and teams work seamlessly across all locations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Multi Property operations Management

• Oversee daily operations across multiple hostel properties in Varkala.
• Ensure consistent service standards, cleanliness, guest experience, and operational processes across all properties.
• Coordinate between front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, vendors, and support teams to ensure smooth functioning.
• Conduct regular property visits and checks to ensure all areas are guest-ready and well maintained.
• Identify operational gaps and implement improvements across properties.

Guest Experience

• Ensure every guest has a comfortable, safe, and memorable stay.
• Act as a key point of contact for guest escalations, feedback, complaints, and special requests.
• Maintain a warm, friendly, and social hostel environment across all properties.
• Monitor guest reviews and take action to improve ratings, guest satisfaction, and repeat visits.

Team Management

• Lead, train, and supervise property teams, including front desk, housekeeping, maintenance, and support staff.

Housekeeping & Property Standard

• Ensure rooms, dorms, bathrooms, common areas, café/lounge spaces, terraces, and outdoor areas are clean and well maintained.
• Monitor housekeeping schedules, linen management, hygiene practices, and room-readiness standards.
• Ensure quick resolution of repairs, maintenance issues, and guest comfort concerns.

Maintenance & Vendor Coordination

• Oversee regular maintenance schedules across all properties.
• Coordinate with vendors, suppliers, technicians, and service providers.
• Ensure properties remain safe, functional, and ready for guests at all times.

Stock, Cost & Basic Finance support

• Monitor stock levels for housekeeping supplies, guest amenities, linen, pantry/café items, and operational materials.
• Ensure proper usage of resources and reduce wastage across properties.
• Maintain basic records for expenses, vendor bills, inventory, and operational purchases.
• Coordinate with the central/admin team for reporting, approvals, and payments.

Process, Reporting & Administration

• Implement and monitor SOPs for guest handling, housekeeping, maintenance, inventory, vendor coordination, and issue escalation.
• Maintain daily reports, occupancy records, guest feedback, staff attendance, inventory records, and maintenance logs.
• Use Google Drive, spreadsheets, and basic computer systems for documentation and reporting.
• Share regular updates with the management team on operations, issues, improvements, and guest feedback.

Education

• Degree or diploma in Hotel Management, Hospitality Management, Tourism, or a related field is preferred.
• Candidates with strong practical hospitality experience and relevant operational exposure will also be considered.

Required Skills & Experience

• Minimum 5+ years of experience in hospitality, hostel, hotel, resort, guesthouse, or property operations.
• Experience managing multiple properties or large hospitality operations will be preferred.
• Strong understanding of guest experience, front office, housekeeping, maintenance, inventory, vendor coordination, and reporting.
• Proven ability to manage teams across different levels.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication skills in English and Malayam. Knowledge of Hindi will be an added advantage.
• Comfortable using Google Drive, spreadsheets, and basic computer systems.
• Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and handle a dynamic guest-facing environment.
• Candidate should be based near Varkala or willing to relocate to Varkala.
• Willingness to work flexible hours, weekends, and holidays as required in hospitality.
