Job Summary

We are looking for an experienced and result-oriented General Manager – Transport with 15+ years of experience in managing transport operations, fleet administration, and driver management. The role involves overseeing the operations of trucks, vans, and company cars, ensuring efficient vehicle utilization, driver discipline, route planning, safety compliance, and cost optimization.

The candidate should have strong expertise in fleet operations, driver allocation, transport planning, and team leadership while ensuring smooth day-to-day transportation activities across the organization

Key Responsibilities

Transport & Fleet Operations

• Manage end-to-end transportation operations for trucks, vans, and company cars.
• Ensure smooth vehicle movement and availability for business operations.
• Plan and monitor daily dispatch schedules, trip planning, and route optimization.
• Ensure optimum utilization of vehicles and transportation resources.
• Monitor vehicle movement through GPS and tracking systems.
• Handle emergency vehicle arrangements and operational contingencies.

Driver Management & Duty Allocation

• Manage and supervise all drivers, transport coordinators, and support staff.
• Prepare and implement driver duty rosters, trip schedules, and shift allocations.
• Allocate drivers based on route requirements, vehicle type, and operational priorities.
• Ensure proper attendance, discipline, grooming, and behavior of drivers.
• Monitor driver performance, punctuality, trip completion, and productivity.
• Conduct driver briefings regarding safety, compliance, and operational instructions.
• Arrange driver training programs for safe driving practices and company policies.
• Ensure drivers possess valid licenses, permits, badges, and statutory documents.
• Handle driver grievances, leave planning, overtime management, and conflict resolution.
• Maintain backup driver arrangements to ensure uninterrupted operations.
• Monitor driver working hours and ensure compliance with labor and safety regulations.

Fleet Maintenance & Vehicle Administration

• Oversee preventive and breakdown maintenance of all fleet vehicles.
• Ensure timely servicing, insurance renewal, FC renewal, pollution certificates, permits, and statutory compliance.
• Monitor fuel consumption, mileage, tyre performance, and vehicle efficiency.
• Coordinate with workshops, service providers, and breakdown support teams.
• Ensure minimum vehicle downtime and maximum fleet availability.

Vendor & Transport Contractor Management

• Manage transport vendors, outsourced fleet providers, and contractors.
• Negotiate transportation contracts, rates, and service agreements.
• Monitor vendor performance and compliance with company standards.

Compliance & Safety

• Ensure compliance with RTO regulations, transport laws, EHS standards, and company policies.
• Implement road safety initiatives and accident prevention measures.
• Investigate vehicle incidents/accidents and ensure corrective actions.
• Maintain all transport-related records, permits, and documentation.

Cost Control & Budget Management

• Prepare and manage transport department budgets.
• Monitor transportation costs, fuel expenses, repairs, and maintenance costs.
• Implement cost-saving initiatives without affecting operational efficiency.

MIS & Reporting

• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly MIS reports related to fleet operations and driver management.
• Analyze operational data to improve vehicle utilization and transport efficiency.
• Maintain records of trips, fuel usage, maintenance schedules, driver logs, and compliance documentation.

Team Leadership

• Lead, mentor, and motivate transport teams to achieve operational targets.
• Develop a culture of accountability, safety, and operational excellence.
• Coordinate with internal departments for transportation planning and support.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Supply Chain, Transportation, Engineering, or related field.
• MBA / PG Diploma in Operations or Supply Chain Management preferred.

Experience Required

• Minimum 15 years of experience in transport and fleet management.
• Experience handling trucks, vans, cars, and driver operations is mandatory.
• Minimum 5 years in a senior managerial role overseeing large transport teams and fleet operations.
