The Opportunity

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Product Owner with 4-6 years of dedicated experience in the healthcare industry to join our dynamic product development team at Health Catalyst. In this crucial role, you’ll be instrumental in defining and delivering cutting-edge healthcare products that address critical market needs and provide exceptional value to our clients. You’ll serve as the voice of the customer, translating complex healthcare requirements into clear, actionable user stories, and working closely with engineering teams to bring products from concept to launch within the Health Catalyst ecosystem.

Key Responsibilities

Product Discovery & Requirement Definition

• Lead requirement gathering through stakeholder discussions, client feedback calls, and internal workshops.
• Define and refine Epics, Features, and User Stories with clear business context and acceptance criteria.
• Conduct impact analysis for new initiatives, enhancements, and regulatory updates.
• Support market research and competitive analysis to inform product decisions.

Backlog & Roadmap Management

• Own and maintain a prioritized and well-structured product backlog.
• Collaborate with Product Leadership to support product roadmap planning.
• Translate roadmap themes into executable increments.
• Continuously reprioritize backlog based on business value, client needs, and technical constraints.

Agile Execution & Sprint Management

• Partner closely with the Development team to clarify requirements and remove ambiguities.
• Support sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives.
• Monitor sprint progress and proactively manage scope changes.
• Ensure stories meet Definition of Ready and Definition of Done criteria.
• Coordinate feature acceptance testing prior to release.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Collaborate with:
• Development teams
• Data Science teams
• Implementation teams
• Customer Success teams
• Content and Regulatory teams
• Ensure product increments align with client commitments and regulatory requirements.

Release & Communication Management

• Write and publish release notes.
• Maintain product documentation library.
• Conduct product showcase/demo sessions for internal and external stakeholders.
• Communicate release scope and feature updates clearly across teams.

Product Monitoring & Continuous Improvement

• Track and evaluate product performance metrics.
• Analyze feedback from customers and internal stakeholders.
• Identify improvement opportunities to enhance usability, adoption, and value realization.

Preferred Qualifications

• 4-6 years of experience as a Product Owner or a similar product management role, with a significant portion of this experience (at least 3-4 years) directly within the healthcare industry.
• Demonstrated understanding of healthcare workflows, clinical processes, regulatory landscapes (e.g., HIPAA, FHIR, interoperability standards), and common healthcare IT systems (EHR/EMR, Practice Management, LIS, RIS, etc.).
• Proven experience in an Agile/Scrum development environment. Scrum Product Owner (CSPO) certification is a plus.
• Exceptional ability to translate complex business and technical requirements into clear, concise, and actionable user stories.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making.
• Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Proactive and self-motivated with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., Business, Computer Science, Healthcare Administration, Nursing, or a related clinical field). Master’s degree is a plus.
• Having experience in healthcare scheduling, billing, claims, etc.
