Role Overview

Tableau Platform Administration

• Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Tableau Server / Tableau Cloud
• Manage environments (DEV / TEST / PROD)
• Monitor server health, performance, and capacity
• Apply patches and version upgrades with minimal downtime

Security & Access Management

• Manage users, groups, roles, and permissions
• Integrate authentication (LDAP / Active Directory / SSO / OAuth)
• Enforce row_level and project_level security
• Support compliance and audit requirements

Content Governance

• Manage projects, workbooks, data sources, and extracts
• Enforce content lifecycle standards (certified, deprecated, archived)
• Promote dashboards between environments
• Remove unused or redundant content

Performance & Reliability

• Monitor response times, background tasks, and extract refreshes
• Tune dashboards and extracts for optimal performance
• Scale server resources based on usage patterns
• Troubleshoot failures and outages

Data Connectivity & Refresh

• Configure and manage:
• Live connections
• Extracts
• Scheduled refreshes
• Handle data source authentication and credential rotation
• Support connectivity to databases, cloud warehouses, and files

Monitoring & Automation

• Track usage metrics and adoption KPIs
• Automate recurring admin tasks using:
• Tableau REST API
• TabCmd
• Python / scripting
• Create monitoring and alerting dashboards

User Support & Enablement

• Provide Tier_2/Tier_3 Tableau support
• Assist developers with publishing and performance issues
• Create admin and user documentation
• Conduct best_practice sessions for dashboard developers
