Your Role

As a Software Application Engineer on the Data Operations team, you’ll play a key role in maintaining, upgrading, and supporting the technical systems that power Warner Music Group’s global operations. This hybrid role combines elements of Software Engineering with Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) and operational support, requiring adaptability, technical breadth, and a strong customer focus. You’ll thrive if you enjoy keeping complex systems healthy, scalable, and resilient in production.

We are hiring for multiple levels, from motivated New Grads, to highly experienced Senior Application Engineers. Ideal candidates will feel a strong sense of responsibility for the systems under their care, and value continuous improvement, knowledge sharing, communication and cooperation.

Here You’ll Get To

Software Engineering & Upgrades

• Write clean, maintainable code in Python (preferred) or Java.
• Upgrade application frameworks to stay current with security patches, support, and performance improvements
• Debug and resolve systems errors identified by automated or manual testing

Reliability & Monitoring

• Monitor production systems and improve observability to detect and resolve issues proactively
• Lead root cause analyses (RCA) for outages and implement corrective actions
• Conduct performance and scalability testing, identify bottlenecks, and implement optimizations

Support & Operations

• Partner with business and operations users to troubleshoot, document, and resolve issues
• Execute manual workflows (e.g., data queries, AWS resource modifications, job restarts) and automate them for efficiency
• Participate in the on-call rotation, responding to high-priority production incidents

Automation & Continuous Improvement

• Enhance CI/CD pipelines (e.g., GitHub Actions, infrastructure-as-code (IaC))
• Contribute to and maintain team knowledge bases, runbooks, and technical documentation
• Drive continuous improvement through process automation and tooling enhancements

About You

• Experience in software development, ideally with Python or Java.
• Experience with relational databases (Oracle, PostgreSQL) and writing SQL queries
• Experience with analytical databases (Snowflake and Databricks) and writing ELT jobs
• Effective communicator who can bridge technical and non-technical discussions
• Comfortable collaborating in distributed teams across multiple time zones
• Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience working with enterprise systems and modernizing them
• Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC) to manage cloud resources, ideally in AWS
• Ability to diagnose and resolve issues across desktop, network, and web layers
• Experience being on-call, managing incidents, and meeting SLA commitment

$115,000 – $140,000 a year

Compensation : This position offers a base salary of $115,000 – $140,000 CAD. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for a performance based annual bonus.
