Job Title: OpenShift SME (Subject Matter Expert)
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced OpenShift SME to lead the design, implementation, optimization, and support of Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform environments. As an OpenShift expert, you will serve as the go-to technical authority for container orchestration, Kubernetes-based deployments, and cloud-native application modernization.
You will work closely with architecture, DevOps, platform engineering, and application teams to deliver scalable, secure, and highly available OpenShift solutions across on-premise, private cloud, public cloud (AWS, Azure, GCP), or hybrid setups.
Key Responsibilities
· Design, deploy, upgrade, and manage large-scale Red Hat OpenShift clusters (self-managed and ROSA) in production environments.
· Provide expert-level guidance on OpenShift architecture, including control plane, worker nodes, networking (OVN-Kubernetes, Multus), storage (OCS, Rook), and ingress solutions.
· Lead containerization and Kubernetes migration initiatives — help application teams move from legacy/monolithic apps to cloud-native microservices on OpenShift.
· Implement and enforce OpenShift best practices for security (RBAC, SCC, Pod Security Standards, Network Policies), compliance, and governance.
· Automate cluster provisioning, day-2 operations, scaling, and patching using Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Ansible, GitOps – ArgoCD).
· Troubleshoot and resolve complex issues related to OpenShift platform, operators, workloads, networking, and performance.
· Integrate OpenShift with CI/CD pipelines (Jenkins, Tekton, GitHub Actions, GitLab), monitoring (Prometheus, Grafana, OpenShift Monitoring), logging (EFK/Loki), and service mesh (Istio / OpenShift Service Mesh).
· Optimize cluster cost, performance, and resource utilization; implement autoscaling and right-sizing strategies.
· Conduct architecture reviews, capacity planning, disaster recovery planning, and high availability design for OpenShift platforms.
· Mentor and train internal teams on OpenShift, Kubernetes, and cloud-native technologies.
· Evaluate and implement new OpenShift features, operators, and Red Hat ecosystem tools (Advanced Cluster Management, OpenShift AI, Pipelines, etc.).
· Ensure adherence to enterprise standards, security policies, and SLAs.
Required Qualifications & Experience
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field.
· 7+ years of overall IT experience with 5+ years of hands-on expertise in Red Hat OpenShift and Kubernetes.
· Proven experience as an OpenShift SME or Senior OpenShift Administrator/Architect in enterprise environments (preferably supporting 1000+ nodes or large-scale deployments).
Must-Have Skills & Competencies
Technical Skills:
· Deep expertise in Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform (versions 4.x) — installation, configuration, upgrade, and day-2 operations.
· Strong knowledge of Kubernetes core concepts, operators framework, CRDs, and Helm charts.
· Hands-on experience with OpenShift networking (OVN, Multus, MetalLB), storage solutions (OpenShift Data Foundation / ODF), and security features.
· Proficiency in automation tools: Ansible, Terraform, GitOps (ArgoCD), and scripting (Bash, Python).
· Experience with CI/CD, DevOps pipelines, and GitOps workflows on OpenShift.
· Strong troubleshooting skills across nodes, pods, operators, etcd, and cluster components.
· Knowledge of monitoring, logging, and observability stack on OpenShift.
· Experience working with public clouds (AWS ROSA, Azure ARO, Google Anthos) is a strong advantage.
Soft Skills:
· Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
· Strong communication and collaboration abilities — able to work with cross-functional and client teams.
· Ability to mentor and guide junior engineers and architects.
· Stakeholder management and ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
Certifications (Highly Preferred)
· Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration (EX280)
· Red Hat Certified OpenShift Administrator (DO280 / DO380)
· Red Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Platform or Advanced Cluster Management
· CKAD / CKA / CKS (Certified Kubernetes Application Developer / Administrator / Security Specialist) – added advantage
Preferred Experience
· Experience in BFSI, Telecom, Retail, or large enterprise environments.
· Exposure to hybrid/multi-cloud OpenShift deployments.
· Knowledge of Red Hat ecosystem tools: Advanced Cluster Management (ACM), OpenShift AI, Pipelines, Serverless, etc.
· Prior experience in consulting, managed services, or client-facing roles.
