Principal Engineer, SW Project – Automotive/Telematics Domain Full Time NEW

As a SW Project Lead at Harman, you are responsible for successfully running the Software part of our Telematic Projects and ensure project deliveries in time, budget and quality. You are the face to the customer for all SW topics. You are orchestrating the virtual, cross functional, global SW project team.

Your Team

The SW Project Lead will report to the Director, Engineering SW Project EU and will typically be assigned to multiple projects. This position does not have any direct reports.

What You Will Do

• Deliver next-generation Telematic Units to the customer
• Serve as the face to the customer for all SW related topics
• Orchestrate virtual, cross functional, global project teams.
• Assure that all software project team members understand the product, understand their roles in the project organization and accept their responsibilities.
• Define and establish software project management process and development lifecycle activities derived from HARMAN standard process considering project specific constraints and stakeholder needs.
• Establish communication and synchronization with global cross functional teams involved in the project on a regular base.
• Plan, monitor, control and track the software project to achieve the goals with respect to schedule, effort, product quality and process quality in a timely manner.
• Provide SW program status updates on a regular base. Represent the program internally and externally to senior management (Director level and above) during program, quality, and operations reviews.
• Ensure project deliveries in time, budget and quality by following the project specifications.
• Define and establish planning guidelines and priorities for SW development.
• Create and update software project milestone schedule, synchronized with program management, customer, and suppliers.
• Identify and monitor project and process risks within scope of software project management and establish risk mitigation and contingency plans.
• Arbitrate and resolve conflict and interface problems affecting progress of software project.
• End-to-End responsibility for the SW Delivery

What You Need

• University degree in engineering (Electrical Engineering, Information Technology) or Business Administration or appropriate graduation
• Expert knowledge in project management and coordination in a globally distributed development environment
• Expert knowledge in software engineering
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
• Global mindset, teamwork in a multi-location team, enterprise approach
• Knowledge of Agile SW Development
• Knowledge of requirements definition and management
• Knowledge of risk management
• Knowledge of process models (e.g. Automotive SPICE®, CMMI)
• Excellent communication skills, strong interpersonal and relationship management skills with excellent conflict resolution and negotiation skills
• Ability to understand complex systems, to break down and structure into reasonable parts so dependencies become visible, describable, and thus manageable.
• Ability to define, pursue and reach strong and measurable individual goals corresponding to general HARMAN strategy and to integrate people, to resolve conflicts, broad intercultural experience, Excellent communication skill
• Must have a “whatever-it-takes” attitude using diplomatic leadership skills within a collaborative teamwork environment to accomplish the necessary results

What Is Nice To Have

• Certified Project Management Professional (e.g. PMP )
• Automotive experience
• Projects implemented with Automotive ASPICE Level 3
• Experience in real-time embedded software and system development
• Management experience with 25+ people
• Fluent Japanese (Level 1)
