- This role requires strong knowledge of UK and Ireland employment law and local compliance, which typically comes from experienced associates — something an IJP candidate is unlikely to have.
- Redundancy management is a complex and critical aspect of the UK and Ireland portfolio. Currently, only two of us (myself and another team member) handle this, and the high volumes during recent restructuring demonstrated the need for more experienced support.
- Given the number of regional deals and rebadging activities, TUPE experience is particularly valuable and can generally be sourced only through external hiring.
- An external hire could additionally provide useful market benchmarks that may help us improve our practices.
- In the last three years, we hired two candidates through IJP (backfill of 2 resignations), both of whom required 3–6 months to scale up, and one eventually left for a better opportunity last year
- Last year’s IJP did not yield any suitable profiles across U3/U4, so we may not find new relevant candidates through that route. (I got 4 profiles through IJP today – but none appear to be a good fit)
- Cultural alignment is also an important factor for success in this role – knowledge of UK and Ireland/Europe market – this may not be a big challenge for an IJP candidate with the right attitude.
