Surveillance Developer Full Time

Job Description

This role sits within the Legal & Compliance function and involves close collaboration with internal stakeholders, including senior management, to ensure the effective operation and continuous improvement of surveillance systems and processes.

The ideal candidate will bring strong analytical and technical skills, along with an understanding of trading environments and regulatory expectations.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with Legal, Compliance, Trading, and senior management to support the day-to-day operation and enhancement of the firm’s surveillance program.
• Gather, analyze, and translate business requirements from global Legal & Compliance teams into clear technical specifications.
• Design, develop, and maintain surveillance reports, alerts, and monitoring frameworks.
• Collaborate with developers to build and enhance surveillance tools, troubleshoot issues, and optimize system performance.
• Perform data analysis to support surveillance reviews, including the generation of management information (MI) reports and ad-hoc analytics.
• Identify gaps, inefficiencies, and false positives in existing surveillance processes, and drive improvements to enhance effectiveness and accuracy.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of experience in a business analyst, technical project management, or similar role within a financial institution (e.g., investment bank, broker, exchange, proprietary trading firm, or regulator).
• Experience designing, implementing, or reviewing surveillance models, alerts, or reporting frameworks.
• Working knowledge of SQL, Python, and Tableau for data analysis and investigation.
• Strong ability to work independently, prioritize effectively, and escalate issues with sound judgment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel and/or Google Sheets for data analysis and reporting.

Preferred Qualifications

• Understanding of market conduct, market abuse regulations, and surveillance typologies (e.g., spoofing, layering, insider trading).
• Exposure to high-frequency or algorithmic trading environments and related data structures and order flows.
