Chief Risk Officer | Secured Lending

About the Role
We are looking for an experienced and strategic Chief Risk Officer (CRO) to lead the organization’s enterprise risk management function. The role will work closely with the CFO and COO to strengthen the company’s financial, operational, regulatory, and portfolio risk frameworks across lending businesses.
The ideal candidate must have deep expertise in financial risk management, secured lending products, RBI regulations, and operational risk governance within NBFC, Banking, Fintech, or Financial Services environments.
This role requires a highly analytical, audit-driven leader with strong exposure to credit risk, portfolio monitoring, compliance, and enterprise risk controls.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and strengthen the overall Risk Management framework of the organization
- Work closely with the CFO and COO on strategic business and financial risk decisions
- Drive enterprise-wide financial risk assessment, mitigation, and governance initiatives
- Monitor portfolio health, operational financial risk, and lending risk exposure
- Develop and implement robust risk control mechanisms across lending operations
- Ensure compliance with RBI regulations, audit requirements, and internal governance frameworks
- Drive risk analytics, portfolio monitoring, stress testing, and risk reporting
- Establish strong operational and financial control systems across business functions
- Lead internal risk reviews, audits, policy governance, and remediation initiatives
- Evaluate lending policies, underwriting frameworks, and risk appetite models
- Collaborate with business, credit, collections, operations, and compliance teams
- Present risk insights, governance updates, and portfolio assessments to senior leadership
Required Experience & Skills
- Proven experience as a Risk Leader within NBFC, Banking, Fintech or Financial Services.
- Strong expertise in Financial Risk Management, Operational Financial Risk, Enterprise Risk & Governance, Audit & Compliance, Risk Analytics, Portfolio Monitoring & Commodity Trading.
- Deep understanding of RBI guidelines, regulatory frameworks, and compliance requirements
- Strong exposure to Secured Lending businesses
- Experience in handling lending products such as LAP (Loan Against Property), Home Loans, Warehouse Receipt Financing, Supply Chain Finance, Agri Lending Products, SME/MSME, etc.
- Strong analytical, governance, and stakeholder management capabilities
- Audit-driven mindset with strong control orientation
- Ability to work cross-functionally with leadership and business teams
Preferred Experience
- Exposure to Agri Finance / Rural Lending environments will be an advantage
- Experience in Commodity-backed lending or commodity financing is good to have
- Exposure to enterprise-scale governance and risk transformation initiatives is preferred
Educational Qualification
- Chartered Accountant (CA) – Mandatory
