UK Accountant & Bookkeeper Full Time

We are seeking an experienced UK Accountant and Bookkeeper with a strong background in accounting practice to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing bookkeeping, VAT, payroll, and year-end accounts for a diverse portfolio of UK clients. This role is perfect for an ACCA/ACA professional (or part-qualified) who thrives in a detail-oriented environment and enjoys client interaction.

Key Responsibilities’

• Prepare and review quarterly VAT returns and ensure compliance with HMRC regulations.
• Manage monthly payroll processing, including PAYE, pensions, and CIS deductions (software training provided).
• Maintain accurate bookkeeping using QuickBooks/Xero, reconciling accounts, and resolving discrepancies.
• Prepare financial statements under FRS102 & FRS105, including adjustments for accruals, prepayments, and depreciation.
• Analyze Profit & Loss and Balance Sheets, identifying variances and key insights for client meetings.
• Prepare and file Corporation Tax returns (CT600), calculating taxable profits accurately.
• Handle ad-hoc accounting tasks, including CIS returns, journal entries, and client queries.
• Collaborate with partners to finalize accounts and ensure timely submissions.

Qualifications & Skills:

✅ Essential:

• Proven experience in a UK accounting practice (2+ years preferred).
• Strong knowledge of UK GAAP, VAT, payroll, and corporation tax.
• Proficiency in QuickBooks and Xero (training provided for other software).
• Solid understanding of double-entry bookkeeping and financial adjustments.
• Part-qualified or fully qualified ACCA/ACA (or equivalent experience).

✅ Desirable:

• Familiarity with Auto Entry, Iris Elements, BrightPay, or Accountancy Manager.
• Experience with FRS102/FRS105 reporting.
• Ability to work with incomplete records and reconstruct accounts.
