Key job responsibilities

Lead technical initiatives and provide subject matter expertise for one or more services, acting as a trusted resource across the organization for complex technical questions and cross-team planning

Design, develop, and optimize high-performing scripts and applications that automate complex workflows and improve operational efficiency

Investigate and resolve the most complex support issues by performing thorough analysis, identifying root causes, and implementing sustainable solutions

Mentor and guide junior engineers through code reviews, technical mentoring, and career development conversations, while contributing to hiring and training efforts

Establish and improve service standards by collaborating with management and development teams to define service level agreements, metrics, monitoring procedures, and documentation

A day in the life

As an Application Engineer, you’ll divide your time between technical leadership and hands-on problem-solving. You might start your morning reviewing support metrics and collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify optimization opportunities for our services. Mid-day, you could be diving deep into a complex technical issue, analyzing root causes, and designing solutions that improve our operational efficiency. You’ll also spend time mentoring junior engineers through code reviews and technical discussions, sharing knowledge from your experience. Your role includes on-call responsibilities where you’ll respond to critical incidents, troubleshoot application infrastructure issues, and drive resolutions. You’ll also work directly with clients, onboarding them to our platform and ensuring they understand its capabilities and features.

Basic Qualifications

• 5+ years of software development, or 5+ years of technical support experience
• Experience in Unix
• Experience scripting in modern program languages
• Experience driving projects to improve support-related processes and technical support
• Experience troubleshooting and debugging technical systems, or experience demonstrating software engineering skills in a previous intership, work experience, coding competitions, or publications and experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
• Knowledge of SQL, Linux, OLAP, and relational, NoSQL & multi-dimensional databases
• Experience demonstrating software engineering skills in a previous intership, work experience, coding competitions, or publications, or experience with threat modeling and penetration testing and experience that includes strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication abilities
• Experience in mentoring, leading, or managing more junior engineers
• Experience performing complex business case analysis to justify technical decisions and presenting the justification to management in a high-level review
• Experience working and communicating with multiple stakeholders, C-level executives and cross functional teams or equivalent
• Experience in identifying incomplete or inaccurate data, identifying the root cause and creating/implementing an escalation plan, or experience communicating results to senior leadership
• Experience using strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Experience managing conflict, escalations, negotiating compromise, influencing others and problem solving with engineering teams
• 5+ years of software development or technical support experience
• Should have in depth understanding of software development principles, design patterns and best practices

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of distributed applications/enterprise applications
• Knowledge of UNIX/Linux operating system
• Experience analyzing and troubleshooting RESTful web API calls
• Experience with the AWS platform, web services, software development, or related technologie
