Loan Process & Compliance Officer

Smartfinn Solutions is a specialised back-end support company assisting Australian mortgage
brokers with loan processing, operations, compliance, and business support services.
We are seeking a highly experienced professional who is VERY familiar with the Australian
mortgage industry and possesses strong operational knowledge, exceptional attention to
detail, and the ability to identify potential fraud, compliance risks, and high-risk loans
applications before submission.
While the role is currently remote, Smartfinn Solutions plans to establish an office in Cochin
with a future hybrid working model.
About the Role:-
This role is ideal for an experienced mortgage processing or credit professional who has
extensive hands-on exposure to Australian home loan applications, and understands how to
identify risk beyond what is visible on the surface.
The successful candidate will possess:
A strong understanding of Australian mortgage compliance
Sharp analytical and investigative skills
The intuition to identify unusual trends, inconsistencies, and potential fraud indicators
A proactive mindset focused on protecting the business and brokers
We are looking for someone who can think critically, question inconsistencies, and assess the
overall integrity of a loan application.
Key Responsibilities:-
Compliance & File Review
Conduct detailed reviews of loan applications to ensure compliance with:
o NCCP requirements and internal compliance standards
o Responsible lending obligations
o Lender policies
Review all supporting documents uploaded within Mercury CRM and ensure
completeness and accuracy
Verify that notes, client objectives, liabilities, income, and application details align
correctly across all documents.
Risk & Fraud Identification
Perform forensic-style checks on supporting documents, including:
o Payslips and Employment evidence
o Bank statements
o Tax documents
o ID documents
Detect potential fraud indicators, manipulated documents, undisclosed liabilities, or
suspicious transaction patterns
Escalate high-risk matters promptly to management and relevant stakeholders
Apply practical judgement and intuition to identify applications that may expose
brokers or the business to future risk.
Broker &Team Support
Work closely with brokers, processors, and admin staff to rectify compliance gaps
Provide guidance and practical solutions to improve submission quality
Assist in developing stronger compliance awareness across the team
Conduct internal training sessions on compliance standards, lender expectations, and
risk management
Process Improvement & Reporting
Recommend operational improvements to strengthen compliance processes and
efficiency
Assist in developing internal compliance frameworks and quality control systems
Prepare analytical reports for management on:
o Compliance trends
o Common errors
o Risk areas
o File quality performance
Skills & Experience:-
Essential Requirements
Minimum 3–5 years’ experience within the Australian mortgage broking, loan
processing, credit assessment, or banking industry
Strong understanding of Lender policies and Servicing calculators
Deep knowledge of Australian mortgage compliance records
Excellent attention to detail with strong investigative ability
Ability to identify anomalies, inconsistencies, and high-risk scenarios
Strong written and verbal English communication skills
Excellent organisational and multitasking skills
Confident in interacting with brokers and stakeholders professionally
Preferred Qualities:-
Strong intuition and analytical thinking
High level of integrity and accountability
Leadership and mentoring capability
Team-oriented with a proactive approach
Educational Qualification:-
Bachelor’s Degree preferred
Mortgage or finance-related qualifications advantageous.
