About the Role: Are You the One? 🧿
Should you accept the mission of being an Outreach SEO/PR Specialist at Houzeo, you will own the engine
that earns Houzeo high-authority editorial backlinks across national press, real estate trade publications,
and city-specific local media. We need a relentless, journalist-savvy operator who can turn our first-party
data ($13.9M+ in seller savings, 1,245+ sold listings, 50-state coverage) into stories that publications
actually want to publish and links that move our domain authority.
If you’re passionate about the U.S. real estate landscape AND get a kick out of seeing your pitches turn
into bylines on WSJ, Bloomberg, Forbes, and Realtor.com, this role is for you. Our ideal candidate is not
just an outreach specialist but someone who treats every published link as a small dent in the universe.
Your Mission, Should You Choose to Accept It 🎯
✅ Own the end-to-end PR outreach engine: identify, pitch, follow up, and close placements with
journalists at tier-1, tier-2, and local outlets. Target: 100-130 editorial links per year, with 8-15 in tier-1
publications (WSJ, NYT, Bloomberg, Forbes, Realtor.com, Inman, etc.).
✅ Run the data-PR cycle: take Houzeo’s quarterly seller datasets and turn them into pitchable angles
(national, state-level, city-level, luxury, mainstream). Translate raw CSVs into headlines journalists
can’t ignore.
✅ Manage Houzeo’s profiles on Featured.com, Source of Sources (SOS), Qwoted, and the Forbes Real
Estate Council. Submit at least 5 expert-quote responses per week. Aim for 1-2 published quotes per
week sustained.
✅ Build and maintain the Master Outreach Tracker: every pitch logged, every reply tracked, every
published link recorded with anchor text, AS, and DR. This is your single source of truth — and the
team’s, too.
✅ Personalize every single pitch. Templated pitches die in inboxes, period. We expect 15-20 minutes of
research per tier-1 contact (recent article reference, beat-specific framing, the right hook). Quality >
volume, always.
✅ Coordinate with the content, data, and dev teams on tentpole press releases, microsite launches, and
embargoed media previews. Quarterly tentpole studies are your biggest swing — own the launch
sequence.
✅ Track and report on link velocity, anchor text distribution, AS-tier mix, and branded search lift. Build
monthly leadership updates that frame the work in revenue terms, not vanity metrics.
✅ Live by the cricket rule, Rohit Sharma’s ‘Lead from the front,’ not Dhoni’s ‘Lead from the back.’ You’ll
personally pitch the toughest tier-1 reporters yourself, not delegate the hard ones to a VA.
What You Bring 💪
📌 A Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism, or a related field. (Or a portfolio of
placements that proves you don’t need one!)
📌 Minimum 2-4 years of experience in digital PR, link building, journalist outreach, or earned media —
ideally for a SaaS, fintech, proptech, or marketplace company.
📌 Demonstrated link-building wins. Be ready to share 3-5 published placements you personally landed
— bonus points if any are on DR 70+ publications.
📌 Proficiency with outreach tools: Semrush or Ahrefs, Hunter.io, BuzzStream or Pitchbox, and the
HARO/Featured/Qwoted/SOS ecosystem.
📌 Strong writing skills. You can write a 5-sentence pitch that makes a tier-1 reporter open, read, and
reply. (We will train you on Houzeo’s brand voice — but the writing instinct must already be there 🙂)
📌 Familiarity with E-E-A-T principles, anchor text discipline, and YMYL constraints (real estate is YMYL
— quality matters more here than almost any other niche).
Nice to Haves 👑
👌 Existing relationships with real estate, personal finance, or housing-market journalists at tier-1
publications.
👌 Experience with quarterly tentpole data studies (commission savings indexes, market reports,
transparency reports — the kind of content that earns 20+ links from one launch).
👌 Comfort interpreting first-party data (Excel, GA4, GSC) and turning it into pitchable headlines without
waiting on the data team.
👌 Understanding of the post-NAR-settlement real estate landscape and the flat-fee MLS category
specifically.
👌 An aggressive, journalist-respecting mentality. (You know the difference between persistent and
pushy.)
👌 Prior experience working with founders or executives — you’ll be coordinating with our CEO Amit on
quotes, interviews, and Forbes Council bylines.
👌 Strong organizational skills — you’ll be tracking 200+ pitches and 50+ live placements at any given
time.
