Role Purpose
The Assistant Category Manager supports the development, execution, and performance of the category across the market. The role focuses on building commercially strong, trend-relevant, and profitable assortments in line with consumer preferences, brand positioning, and business goals.
This person works closely with design, sourcing, merchandising, planning, retail, marketing, and supply chain teams to ensure the category delivers on sales, margin, freshness, inventory health, and customer appeal.

Key Responsibilities
1. Category Strategy Support
• Assist in planning and executing the category roadmap for gemstone jewellery.
• Track market trends, customer insights, and competitor activity in the Indian jewellery market.
• Contribute to seasonal launches, festive collections, category assortments, and range planning.
2. Assortment Planning and Product Management
• Support Range creation and build balanced assortments for categories within Gemstone Jewellery
• Ensure the assortment reflects current trends, customer demand, store cluster needs, and brand identity.
• Coordinate with new product introductions, new product reviews, rationalization of slow movers, and lifecycle management of existing SKUs.
3. Business Performance Analysis
• Monitor category KPIs such as sales, sell-through, gross margin, stock turn, aged inventory
• Prepare actionable insights based on the reviews to drive performance and address growth concerns.
• Indent products based on demand forecasting and stock planning in collaboration with Inventory teams.
4. Vendor and Sourcing Coordination
• Coordinate with internal sourcing teams and external vendors for gemstone jewellery development and procurement.
• Monitor vendor performance on Sell thru, lead time, and design execution.
• Work with quality and procurement teams to ensure gemstone certification, compliance, and product integrity.
5. Cross-Functional Collaboration
• Partner with:
• Design for trend-right and collections product development
• Retail / VM for in-store presentation and collection visibility
• Marketing for campaign input, storytelling, and product focus
• Inventory / Supply Chain for allocation, replenishment, and launch readiness
• E-commerce/Endless Aisle for online assortment relevance and product visibility
• Ensure timely execution of launches and promotional events.
6. Inventory and Lifecycle Management
• Assist in maintaining healthy inventory across channels and store clusters.
• Prepare allocation strategies for regional demand and core new products
• Monitor ageing and dead stock, and recommend actions on liquidation of stocks
7. Consumer and Market Insights
• Analyze consumer buying behaviour across occasions such as weddings, gifting, festive, and self-purchase.
• Study regional nuances in gemstone preference, design aesthetics, and price sensitivity
• Track market innovations, fashion trends, and competitor launches.
• Use data and feedback from stores, customers, and online channels to improve assortment productivity.

Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Fashion management, Fashion Merchandising, Retail Management, Jewellery Design, Marketing, or a related field.
• Gemology certification or exposure to coloured gemstones is an advantage.

Experience
• 2–5 years of experience in category management, merchandising, product management, or buying.
• Prior experience in jewellery, luxury retail, fashion accessories, or gemstone products is strongly preferred.
• Experience in the Indian retail or jewellery market is highly desirable.
