Job Description – Librarian
Position: Librarian
Department: Library
Location: Sir Padampat Singhania University (SPSU), Udaipur, Rajasthan
Role Overview
The Librarian will be responsible for the overall management and development of library services, including acquisition, organization, and dissemination of knowledge resources. The role requires ensuring effective utilization of both physical and digital resources while supporting academic and research activities of the University.
Key Responsibilities
1. Collection Management
- Develop, organize, and maintain library collections (print and digital).
- Catalog and classify materials as per standard practices.
- Review and weed out obsolete or redundant resources.
2. User Services & Academic Support
- Provide reference and research assistance to students, faculty, and researchers.
- Conduct library orientation sessions, workshops, and information literacy programs.
- Support academic and research requirements with tailored services.
3. Digital Library Management
- Manage e-resources including e-journals, databases, and digital repositories.
- Ensure smooth functioning of library automation systems in coordination with IT.
- Apply cataloging standards such as MARC and RDA.
4. Collaboration & Outreach
- Collaborate with faculty to align library resources with curriculum and research needs.
- Promote library services through academic events, seminars, and outreach initiatives.
5. Administration & Compliance
- Formulate and implement library policies and procedures.
- Prepare reports, maintain records, and monitor library usage.
- Supervise and train library staff to ensure efficient operations.
Qualifications & Experience
Education:
- Ph.D. in Library Science / Information Science / Documentation / Archives & Manuscript-Keeping.
- Minimum 55% marks (or equivalent grade) at the Master’s level.
Experience:
- 10 years of teaching experience as Assistant Professor in Library Science, OR
- 4 years as Associate Professor in Library Science, OR
- 10 years of experience as a College Librarian.
Technical Skills:
- Proven experience in implementing innovative library services.
- Strong knowledge of ICT integration in library systems and services.
